Many people in Shenzhen are working hard for their dreams and future, but few have the time to stop and truly appreciate the city's charm. Therefore, I have decided to follow my heart this year and stay in Shenzhen for the Chinese New Year. I want to take this opportunity to relax, explore, and experience the city in depth.

As the crowds returning to their hometowns disperse, the city becomes remarkably peaceful and quiet. It's no longer as crowded as usual. Despite being busy with work, my wandering heart never stops, and I've always planned the places I want to visit when I have the chance. Finally, this Spring Festival holiday allows me to choose travel routes without worrying about crowds.

First and foremost, the place I've been longing to visit is Wutong Mountain. Having lived in Shenzhen for a long time, I climbed Wutong Mountain once before, but for various reasons, my wish to reach the peak again has been postponed until now. Dreams are meant to be pursued because believing is seeing. Perhaps it's this inner drive that finally led me to fulfill my dream of "conquering Shenzhen's highest peak—Wutong Mountain" during the 2024 Spring Festival.

For this climb, I prepared for two days and eagerly set off on the third day of the holiday towards my dream mountain—Wutong Mountain.

Wutong Mountain has a long history. Back in the Ming and Qing dynasties, "Wuling Tianchi" was renowned as one of the "Xinan Eight Sceneries." Today, "Wutong Smoke and Clouds" is honored as one of the "Shenzhen Eight Sceneries" due to its unique charm. In 2009, Wutong Mountain National Forest Park was designated as a national-level scenic area by the State Council.

As the highest peak in Shenzhen, the main peak of Wutong Mountain stands at an altitude of 944 meters. On the early morning mountain path, I encountered many fellow hikers. Although we were not familiar with each other and rarely interacted, everyone was brimming with vigor and vitality, encouraging each other along the way.

Climbing a mountain is undoubtedly a test of physical strength and endurance, which can strengthen one's willpower and boost confidence. After a few hours of struggle, I finally reached the summit.

The moment I truly reached the top, that long-lost feeling returned: the soreness throughout my body was real, but the jubilant feeling was even more real. More importantly, there was a long-lost sense of fulfillment filling my heart.

“Meeting at the top of the mountain, gazing at the small mountains”. At the summit, I couldn't help but marvel at the grandeur of nature. The mountains are here for everyone to conquer, but the true conquest should be the mountains in our hearts, such as fear, anxiety, procrastination, and avoidance.

The summit of Wutong Mountain

Wutong Mountain boasts breathtaking scenery, but the next destination promises to be even more beautiful. Despite the soreness throughout my body, which forced me to rest for two days, my restless heart refused to pause and kept urging me to pursue my dream to the end.

Therefore, I came up with a compromise that would satisfy both sides: I decided to go to the cinema alone and experience the feeling of "watching movies during the Spring Festival."

To my surprise, the movie-watching experience was fantastic. With just the price of one movie ticket, I unexpectedly found myself enjoying the sensation of having a private screening. They say that the Year of the Loong brings good luck, and indeed it did for me.

At the cinema

After a few days of rest and recovery, I was back in full swing, and my "Shenzhen Spring Festival Holiday Tour" was once again back on the agenda. This time, my destination was Shenzhen Bay Park because as the benevolent find joy in mountains and the wise find joy in water, having already seen the mountains, I wanted to take in the sea once more.

By late morning, Shenzhen Bay Park was already bustling with crowds, lively and vibrant, with a scene of flourishing plants and a sense of vitality all around. The wonder of creation lies in the fact that each flower, each tree, creates its own world, allowing people to temporarily escape the hustle and bustle of the city despite being in the heart of it. Bathed in sunlight, enjoying the gentle breeze, breathing in the fresh air, witnessing the sea of people and flowers, the perfect harmony of movement and stillness, I would pause to take photos whenever I grew tired, feeling completely relaxed and at ease. Walking and stopping along the way, until the sun set, I was reluctant to leave, savoring every moment.

The beauty of Shenzhen Bay Park

"Starting from tomorrow, I will be a happy person... I only wish to face the sea, with spring warmth and flowers blooming." These are the beautiful wishes poet Hai Zi left for this world. During the 2024 Spring Festival holiday, I fulfilled a long-standing wish of "celebrating the New Year in place and having a date with spring in Shenzhen", satisfying my craving for close encounters with nature all at once. This allowed me to release my stress, finding joy and great satisfaction in my spirit. Life should have a balance, with a moderate pace and speed. Excessive stress must be released in time, as only appropriate pressure is conducive to long-term sustainable development. Perhaps, this is the profound significance of the 2024 Spring Festival holiday for me.
