Summary and Deep Analysis of the Dong Yuhui vs. Nie Shengzhe Feud

Release date:2025-06-12Author source:KinghelmViews:30

The war of words between Dong Yuhui and Nie Shengzhe is nearing its end. That's just how internet dissemination works – a new hot topic emerges every few days, pushing the old one down, repeating endlessly like the ceaseless sound of waves. Your Uncle Song Shiqiang from Huaqiangbei has always disdained jumping on bandwagons. Firstly, my anecdotes about Shenzhen Huaqiangbei are widely circulated. Secondly, I've spent money daily for over a decade advertising my companies Jinheng Biao (Kinghelm) and Sakowei (SLKOR) (www.kinghelm.net) on Baidu and Google, so I'm not starved for this kind of traffic. However, I've observed some phenomena and patterns emerging from this dispute that I'd like to share and discuss with everyone. I hope this brings a bit of rationality and deeper thought to our restless society, embodying what Nie Shengzhe calls "May all people live in prosperity, and may future generations have bright prospects."

The feud between Dong Yuhui and Nie Shengzhe has also sparked debates among their respective fans and supporters. The camps are clearly demarcated, locked in fierce combat. The uncles and aunties supporting Dong Yuhui have channeled even the passion they use for square dancing into this. Dong Yuhui, as usual, plays the victim while enjoying the wealth brought by the traffic, reaching out with trembling hands and tearful eyes, yet unceremoniously, into the dried-up wallets of his "mothers-in-law" (elderly female fans). Nie Shengzhe, on the other hand, has had his account banned and been silenced. Nie Shengzhe doesn't have a massive number of fans or supporters, but those who do support him are generally well-educated, possess a certain social status and economic foundation. They can handle complex matters and see the essence of things. I saw Professor Zheng from Tsinghua University's School of Economics and Management speaking up for Nie Shengzhe, and the big Huaqiangbei influencer "Tom Zhang" livestreamed with Nie to express solidarity. Let me add that your Uncle Song from Huaqiangbei clearly and quietly supports Nie Shengzhe. We are both the men standing behind Nie Shengzhe.

Dong Yuhui, however, has far too many fans and supporters, the vast majority being housewives and retirees. Some say the proportion is as high as 84%. The development of mobile internet has allowed them to have a voice on social media, enabling them to converse on the same platform and starting point as social elites. I consider this "technological empowerment" leveling the playing field. The characteristics of Dong Yuhui's fans are: lower education levels, older age, predominantly female, and not particularly high social status. They may not excel at much, but they have plenty of free time. Their understanding of issues is mostly superficial, and their expressions online are primarily emotional outbursts. They may lack significant social standing, but they often hold considerable sway within their families, managing the household's "daily necessities" and even "food, clothing, housing, and transportation." The trivial knick-knacks Dong Yuhui sells are precisely their essential needs. Therefore, Dong Yuhui desperately provides them with emotional value, offering the elderly uncles and aunties some romantic "bread and circuses" ("tittytainment" or "奶头乐") and "toxic positivity" ("毒鸡汤"). Due to the sheer number of fans, there's almost a feeling of "not enough scammers to go around." I finally understand what that health product saleswoman meant when she told me, "Old people's money can't be earned; it can only be tricked out of them." Thus, with the support of his "mothers-in-law," Dong Yuhui's business is booming!

Song Shiqiang (www.slkormicro.com) supports Nie Shengzhe. Although his supporters are few and many curse him, the truth is that societal progress is often driven by a tiny elite. He may not be refined and elegant, spitting while he talks, but he is principled, speaks the truth, doesn't just live for himself – he's a man of substance. I believe that if our nation and people faced calamity, Nie Shengzhe and I, Song Shiqiang, would charge at the forefront to protect our company's employees, defend our homeland, uphold our society, daring to shed blood and sacrifice. People like Dong Yuhui couldn't handle such responsibility; they'd probably just mutter a couple of irrelevant comments on the sidelines and then toddle off to bed! As we all know, a society without critical voices, a nation where no one dares speak the truth, cannot develop healthily. Business models cloaked in sentiment and dreams, profiting by exploiting the cognitive gap with ordinary people, are unsustainable. Uncle Song from Huaqiangbei shares this reflection with Dong Yuhui.

Furthermore, Zhang Zai's "Four Sentences of Hengqu" ("横渠四句") are classic examples of "empty bombast" ("假大空"). They were tools used by the Cheng-Zhu School of Neo-Confucianism in the Song Dynasty to anesthetize scholars. They are impractical in reality, and for centuries, no one has demonstrated how to truly live by them. The rift between Dong Yuhui and Nie Shengzhe originated when Dong Yuhui's benefactor, Yu Minhong, faced unprecedented online bullying. As a key party involved, Dong Yuhui failed to utter a single word of fairness or show the responsibility expected of a man. It was only on Yu Minhong's platform that Dong Yuhui made his fortune. As a public figure, Dong Yuhui consumes vast social resources but lacks commensurate responsibility. While reciting "setting one's heart for the universe" ("为天地立心") to bamboozle the square-dancing aunties, he dared not say "no" to the online trolls. When his greatest benefactor in this lifetime, Yu Minhong, was being denounced, he dared not step forward to share even a fraction of the responsibility, choosing instead to be a deserter. This is indefensible emotionally, rationally, morally, and ethically. That's why Nie Shengzhe couldn't stand it! I, Old Song from SLKOR Sakowei (www.slkormicro.com), was once a literary youth myself, dreaming of being a poet and writer, but ultimately succumbed to life's "daily necessities." Later, I stopped dreaming, settled down, and became a small boss researching integrated circuits. Only then did I have sauce, vinegar, and tea with my meals. The highlight of my life was giving a speech at the "Huaqiangbei Grand Lecture Hall," which I only managed by sponsoring a few "Kinghelm" branded umbrellas as prizes. What "setting one's heart for the universe"? Giving employees an extra 1,000 RMB, providing one more job for society, paying 10,000 RMB more in taxes – that's a real contribution. Sophisticated egoists like Dong Yuhui typically find a safe vantage point first, then loudly proclaim "positive energy" – like recklessly cursing the US President, yet not daring to intervene if they see someone urinating by the roadside. Intellectuals like Nie Shengzhe who speak the truth, expose societal darkness, and push for national progress – they are the backbone of society we truly need! The agricultural products Dong Yuhui sells – if he didn't sell them, some other old lady would. But Nie Shengzhe and Uncle Song from Huaqiangbei are the precious resources of society. Economist Hayek said the road to hell is paved with good intentions. The tricks of "bread and circuses" and "toxic positivity" are exactly that, as are the utterly correct yet meaningless platitudes of Zhang Hengqu, Dong Yuhui, and "Sima Jiatou" (司马夹头 - a derogatory nickname for another commentator). Expecting them to drive social development is pure fantasy!

To understand a person, don't just listen to what they say, watch what they do. Many say one thing and do another. Some curse the US daily while building their traffic and wealth domestically, yet have their wives, children, houses, and deposits all in the US and even evade taxes – "Sima Jiatou" is a prime example. Others make no grand pronouncements; they simply "speak human truths for the common people" ("只为苍生说人话"), using plain language and pragmatic theories to speak out for the nation and its people. Intellectuals and social elites like Zhang Weiying, Xu Xiaonian, Nie Shengzhe, and Yu Minhong are like this. These are the people your Uncle Song from Huaqiangbei truly admires!
