As electronic products develop, data and signal transmission is gradually shifting from wired to wireless, with increasing data volume and transmission speeds. In the face of product upgrades in various fields, wireless modules have emerged as a single product. Wireless modules can be easily integrated into various products, making them high-value-added wireless communication products. At the same time, because wireless modules already have complete wireless RF design, using a complete module for development greatly reduces the design threshold and speeds up commercialization.

Generally speaking, wireless modules consist of RF chips, filtering circuits, power amplifiers, and RF connector sockets, as shown in the figure below.

Due to the miniaturization design requirements of wireless modules, the RF connection port typically uses the IPEX connector, and Kinghelm's IPEX RF connector market share is increasing steadily.

Challenge and Opportunity

Wireless modules operate at different frequency bands depending on the type of wireless communication used. However, their signals are generally medium-to-high frequency signals above MHz. Compared to DC low-frequency signals, significant changes occur in the circuitry. At this point, the resistance of the connecting lines and connectors in the circuitry is no longer a DC resistance that can be ignored, but exists in the form of impedance, consisting of both DC and AC impedance.

As the signal frequency increases, its AC characteristics become more obvious, and the impedance has a strong correlation with the signal frequency. If there is an impedance mismatch in the signal transmission link, the wireless module will experience signal reflection and attenuation, which will seriously affect the signal quality. Especially at the connector end, which is a key part of the wireless module connecting to the external antenna, impedance mismatch is most likely to occur. Once an impedance mismatch occurs, it will not only reduce the transmission efficiency of the wireless module but may also cause additional power consumption and heating, affecting the normal operation of the wireless module. Kinghelm's KH-IPEX-K501-29 (www.kinghelm.net) can replace foreign brands such as TE Connectivity and Hirose HRS!

Solution and Technology

The KH-IPEX-K501-29 is a type of surface mount coaxial IPEX connector for PCBs that is part of the first-generation IPEX series promoted by Kinghelm. The connector is designed according to the standard 50Ω impedance of RF/microwave coaxial transmission lines to meet the impedance requirements of RF signal transmission in wireless modules. It also uses gold-plating technology to minimize contact impedance, providing excellent VSWR values (1.3 MAX@0.1~3GHz, 1.4 MAX@3~6 GHz) and contact impedance as low as 20mΩ in the 0~6 GHz frequency range. This ensures that the entire signal path impedance is a continuous 50Ω impedance, greatly reducing losses, reflections, and attenuation of wireless signals on the transmission line between the wireless module and the external antenna.

This RF connector port fully complies with the standard first-generation IPEX specifications and is perfectly compatible with similar products. It can support a working temperature range of -40°C to +90°C. Kinghelm assists various terminal manufacturers in improving product competitiveness with the best cost-effectiveness, providing the most competitive product selection for the entire industry.

Currently, Kinghelm has become one of the rapidly developing enterprises in China's electronic information industry. In 2022, under the leadership of Mr. Song Shiqiang, Kinghelm Electronics continued to grow steadily in adverse environments. Kinghelm Electronics Co., Ltd. specializes in the further increase of products such as BeiDou GPS antennas, connectors, and the market share has been further expanded. In the future, the company will actively work on the "domestic substitution" of electronic components, providing solutions to the bottleneck problem of foreign companies' technology blockade for the country.
