How to Quickly Select Connector Contacts with Correct Interface Type and Polarity for Different Main Devices and Frequency Bands?

2026-05-19 378

Quick Selection Method for Connector Contacts Based on Device and Frequency Band

Connector contacts can be quickly selected by following the three-step process: “Main Device Type → Frequency Range → Interface & Polarity Matching Rules”, while considering high-frequency compatibility and mechanical reliability.

  1. Select Interface by Device Type:
  • Mobile terminals: MMCX, IPEX
  • Base stations and routers: SMA, N-type
  • Satellite communication and test equipment: SMP, 2.92 mm
  • Automotive terminals: FAKRA preferred, also QMA, TNC

  1. Refine by Frequency Band:
  • ≤6 GHz (5G Sub-6G): SMA, QMA, MMCX
  • 6–40 GHz (Millimeter wave): SMP, 2.92 mm, 3.5 mm
  • ≥40 GHz: 1.85 mm, 1.0 mm

  1. Polarity Matching Rules:
  • Device female (F) pairs with male (M), and vice versa
  • For high frequencies, straight connectors preferred (bent connectors ≤0.3 dB insertion loss)
  • Maintain consistent polarity for batch devices

  1. Selection Verification:
  • Confirm interface type (e.g., SMA-J, F)
  • Interface frequency ≥ upper limit of application band
  • Outdoor/automotive: use connectors with locking mechanisms
  • Indoor: micro connectors without locks are acceptable
