What Are the Impedance Controls and Target Band Losses of SMA, IPEX, and Other RF Adapter Cables?Impedance Control and Target Frequency Loss of RF Adapter Cables

2026-05-19 359

SMA and IPEX (also known as U.FL) are mainstream RF adapter cables for compact communication devices. Their impedance control is primarily 50 Ω to suit RF applications. Only SMA has a few 75 Ω versions for video applications. The target band loss increases with frequency and is influenced by cable specifications and materials. Detailed parameters are as follows:

    SMA RF Adapter Cables:

Impedance Control: Mainly 50 Ω (for base stations, 4G/5G modules, and other RF scenarios); some 75 Ω versions (video applications, not compatible with 50 Ω).

    Target Band Loss:

    ≤6 GHz: ~3.4 dB/m

    6–18 GHz standard version: 7.5 dB/m

    High-end version (silver-plated inner conductor + PTFE insulation): 3.8 dB/m

    SMA-IPEX combination version at 6 GHz: ~4.5 dB/m

    IPEX (U.FL) RF Adapter Cables:

Impedance Control: 50 Ω (for mobile phones, Wi-Fi modules, and other compact RF devices)

    Target Band Loss:

    2.4–5.8 GHz: insertion loss <4.3 dB/m

    6 GHz (SMA conversion version): ~4.8 dB/m

0–12.4 GHz high-quality version: stable loss, RF leakage ≥-60 dB

    Other Common RF Adapter Cables:

MMCX cables with thin wires: ≤6 GHz insertion loss typically <3.5 dB/m

SMP cables for high-frequency applications: maintain low insertion loss in 6–40 GHz, suitable for millimeter-wave and wideband transmission scenarios
