For lunch, we enjoyed traditional firewood chicken at a local farmhouse. This specialty uses free-range local chickens with fresh vegetables and secret seasonings, slow-cooked over a traditional wood fire. The meat is tender and juicy, the broth rich and flavorful—perfect with rice. Sitting on the wooden terrace, savoring the food while admiring the lake and mountains, it felt like one of life’s great pleasures.

Riding the Wind: Soaring above the valley at the Longling International Paragliding Base, you get a bird’s-eye view of Anlan Valley and the surrounding areas—a perfect spot for flying in northeastern Chongqing. After gearing up, running off the hillside under the guidance of an instructor, the lift from the air current creates an unparalleled sense of freedom and weightlessness. As you ascend, the view opens up: the Anxi Reservoir shines like an emerald among the mountains, and the distant scenery of Wanzhou unfolds. From above, you can see the full valley—the lakeside path, forest cabins, glass driftway—all appearing delicate and small. This “God’s-eye view” is a romantic experience unmatched by ground activities.

Cycling along the lakeside on a sightseeing bike, sunlight filters through the leaves, creating dappled patterns on the path. Pear and peach orchards line the route, heavy with fruit and fragrance. Occasionally, we pass anglers quietly enjoying the lakeside peace. Watching the rippling water and listening to birdsong, time seems to slow. At sunset, the valley glows in golden light, and we reluctantly head home, hearts full of longing. Anlan Valley is not only a great travel destination but also an ideal place to relax and reconnect with nature.
