What Is the Core Function of an Antenna?
In systems such as radio communication, broadcasting and television, radar, and aviation or maritime navigation, antennas are essential for transmitting and receiving information via radio waves. The antenna serves as the fundamental device for emitting or capturing radio waves—essentially acting as the "mouth" and "ear" of the system.
In a radio system, the RF signal generated by the transmitter is delivered to the antenna through a feedline (cable), and the antenna radiates these signals as electromagnetic waves. Conversely, electromagnetic waves traveling through the air are captured by the antenna and sent via the feedline to the radio receiver, enabling wireless signal propagation.
In short, antennas are critical for transmitting and receiving electromagnetic waves; without them, radio communication would be impossible.
