How Are Antennas Classified?
To meet the requirements of various applications, many different types of antennas have been developed. These antennas can be classified from different perspectives:
1. By Application:
Communication antennas, broadcasting antennas, television antennas, radar antennas, navigation antennas, etc.
2. By Structure / Shape:
Wire antennas, planar antennas (such as horn antennas and parabolic antennas), etc.
3. By Polarization:
Linear polarization (including vertical polarization, horizontal polarization, and ±45° polarization),
circular polarization (including left-hand circular polarization and right-hand circular polarization),
elliptical polarization, etc.
4. By Directionality:
Omnidirectional antennas, directional antennas, etc.
5. By Operating Function:
Transmitting antennas, receiving antennas, and transceiver (shared transmit/receive) antennas, etc.
In addition, some new types of antennas have been developed, such as microstrip antennas, smart antennas, and active antennas.
