Kinghelm Pin Header Socket KH-2.54FH90-1X10P-H8.5: Keep PCB Layouts from Being “Locked” by Connectors
In electronic product design, the components that most often slow down PCB layout are not always major ICs, but seemingly minor connectors. In compact control boards, modular circuits, or stacked structures, an inappropriate connector height or mating direction can easily cause enclosure interference, routing constraints, or forced relocation of interfaces—leading to repeated PCB revisions and extended development cycles.

The Kinghelm KH-2.54FH90-1X10P-H8.5 pin header socket is not designed to stand out through excessive specifications. Instead, it focuses on a practical goal: preventing connectors from becoming a limiting factor in PCB layout. By balancing structure, size control, material selection, and process compatibility, it provides a more predictable and layout-friendly interconnection solution.
In space-constrained designs, vertical pin header sockets often require significant Z-axis clearance, increasing the risk of mechanical interference with housings, shields, or adjacent components. This can severely restrict routing freedom and component placement. The KH-2.54FH90-1X10P-H8.5 adopts a 90-degree right-angle configuration, redirecting the mating direction horizontally and significantly reducing overall height requirements. With a standard 2.54 mm pitch and a 1×10 single-row layout, it remains fully compatible with common pin headers and wire harnesses, making it well suited for dense and compact PCB layouts.
For interfaces that require frequent insertion and removal—such as debugging ports, expansion connectors, or serviceable modules—contact stability is a key concern. Poor terminal materials or surface finishes can result in fluctuating contact resistance, intermittent signal loss, and difficult-to-diagnose failures. This model uses brass terminals with a Gold Flash surface finish, helping maintain stable electrical contact while reducing resistance variation caused by repeated mating cycles. With a contact resistance of ≤20 mΩ and an insulation resistance of ≥1000 MΩ, it delivers consistent electrical performance in typical electronic applications.
Manufacturing processes also place demands on connector reliability. In real production environments, wave soldering, through-hole soldering, or mixed processes may all be used. If a connector’s thermal resistance is insufficient, plastic deformation or mechanical stress can occur during soldering, compromising solder joints and assembly accuracy. The KH-2.54FH90-1X10P-H8.5 features an insulating housing made of PA6T / Polyester material with a UL 94V-0 flammability rating, capable of withstanding soldering conditions of 240 °C for 30–60 seconds or 260 °C for 5 seconds. This ensures structural stability across common soldering processes and reduces manufacturing-related risks.
Environmental adaptability is another important consideration, particularly for equipment operating continuously or exposed to temperature fluctuations, such as industrial control systems or long-running electronic modules. This pin header socket supports an operating temperature range of -40 °C to +105 °C. Combined with a rated current of 3 A and a dielectric withstand voltage of AC 1000 V, it maintains a balanced performance between electrical capability and environmental durability for signal transmission and low-to-medium power connections.
Clear and consistent specifications also simplify design reuse and BOM management. The KH-2.54FH90-1X10P-H8.5 is defined by key parameters including a 10-position single row, 8.5 mm insulator height, right-angle orientation, bag packaging, and an approximate unit weight of 0.946 g. These clearly defined attributes make it easier to identify, select, and manage across multiple projects or product generations.

Kinghelm KH-2.54FH90-1X10P-H8.5 Specification
Although small in size, pin header sockets often play a decisive role in PCB layout success. By addressing real-world layout constraints through thoughtful structural design and material choices, the Kinghelm KH-2.54FH90-1X10P-H8.5 helps connectors adapt to the design—rather than forcing the design to adapt to the connector.
